ABOUT CHARITY

Improving Outcomes for Women in Ireland and Across the World

We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer.
Currently, 1 in 7 women in Ireland will be diagnosed with breast cancer before 75 years of age and there are 3,507 cases diagnosed annually which is set to continue to increase.

These women are our mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, friends and neighbours. We know these women, they play major roles in our lives.

The National Breast Cancer Research Institute is a national charity that funds a comprehensive research programme at the National University of Ireland, Galway. We know that breast cancer research has improved the diagnosis, treatment options, and outcomes for those who develop the disease. We want to fund these research programmes to continue to impact the outcomes for those who develop the disease in the future.

The research team, in collaboration with universities and hospitals across the globe, focuses on the development and improvement of diagnostic techniques and treatment strategies, to drive real and measurable improvement in clinical outcomes for breast cancer patients.

With your help, we can positively impact the future for women in Ireland.
Thank you for your support.

KPMG WOMEN'S IRISH OPEN CHARITY PARTNER

The National Breast Cancer Research Institute are delighted to be chosen as the Official Charity Partner of this year’s ‘KPMG Women’s Irish Open’ at Dromoland Castle Hotel & Country Club from September 22nd-25th.

The 2022 Women's Irish Open promises to be an unmissable event in the Irish sporting calendar and will see Europe's leading professional female golfers battle it out for a total prize fund of €400,000.

Held 15 times between 1994 and 2012, the Championship has been won by some of Europe's top golfers including Norway's Suzanne Petterson, Sweden's Sophie Gustafson, England's Laura Davies and most recently by the 2021 Solheim Cup winning Captain, Scotland's Catriona Matthew.

Play in Pink co-ordinator Miriam Hand hopes the new partnership with the KPMG Women’s Irish Open can raise the profile of the colourful initiative even further, creating more awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Research.

“The National Breast Cancer Research Institute is honoured to be associated with this year’s KPMG Women’s Irish Open at Dromoland Castle,” said Hand. “Breast cancer is a major health issue for Irish women and our Play in Pink campaign, supported by Golf Ireland, Lady Captains and Clubs across the country has been a tremendous success. This ongoing funding has greatly supported the National Breast Cancer Research Institute to finance research efforts on cancer genetics and improve newer treatments and outcomes for patients globally.
This new partnership will greatly enhance our campaign.
